What We Believe

God created the entire universe and everything in it. He breathed life into man and desires for all mankind to know Him and be in fellowship with Him. Because of sin we have been separated from that fellowship. God showed us what we must do to be restored, and we could not measure up, so He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to take our place and provide the way for us to be reconciled to God the Father.

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life yet chose to take our punishment in the form of death on the cross and separation from the Father. Three days later, He rose again defeating sin and death. This act of sacrifice provided redemption and freedom from sin for all who accept Jesus as their savior, believe in their hearts that He rose from the grave, and confess Him before men.

The Holy Spirit who at times was upon or with certain people throughout history was poured out on believers as a seal or testimony as well as being our helper, comforter, and intercessor when we don’t have the words to pray what is in our hearts.

In Romans 10:8-13 it says; “But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.””

As Christians we are commanded to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. In the gospels, when asked, “who is my neighbor?”, Jesus answered with a parable:

“Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” -Luke 10:30-37
